Bookbinding is an exciting and ancient craft! Our 2-hour workshops use the long stitch method of bookbinding to create a hand-bound leather journal.
we have two sizes to chose from. Medium journals are more compact with smooth pages- perfect for writing and journaling on-the-go. Size is about 5" x 8.5".
Large journals are deliciously thick with extra heavy-weight pages- perfect for grimoires, a book of shadows, collaging, scrap booking, writing and drawing. Size is about 9" x 12".
When finished binding, you can personalize your journal with symbols, images and other mixed-media items.
Tea stained pages add a unique look to your journal. We provide you with a tea-stained cover page for each section of your journal and will discuss how to do your own tea-staining at home.
Gilding is the art of applying thin sheets of gold, silver or copper to a surface. It lends a richness to your leather and can be used for lettering, creating borders or filling in stencils. It takes time because it involves an adhesive, but if time permits, you can sample the gilding technique. We have gilding supplies for you to purchase and take with you, too.
Workshop materials include choice of leather, blank pages, choice of stitching, metal pendant or charm, in-store use of celtic and other stencils, in-store us of leather paint pens. Tracing film to create templates to go. Other supplies available for purchase.
Your pages are empty so you can use your journal however you wish.
We've cut and pierced holes in the leather for you. This involves hot tools and we want to keep everyone safe. You'll do all of the binding and embellishing.
Long stitch bookbinding has a thick, soft leather cover. We prefer the long stitch method because it does not involve glue or other adhesives. Your book will have refillable blank pages which are great for writing, drawing, collaging, you name it!
