Know before you go!

Introduction

step 1: choose A leather COVER

step 1: choose A leather COVER

Bookbinding is an exciting and ancient craft; our long-stitch bookbinding workshop lets you create a personalized, refillable journal for all your creative and magickal works! Cost of your workshop includes etching leather, mixed media paper, leather binding cord, and latigo lace for closure. (Additional decorations available for purchase include tea-stained cover pages and metal book corners)

step 1: choose A leather COVER

step 1: choose A leather COVER

All of our genuine leather options are "pull-up" leather, meaning a lighter color peeks through when marks are made on it as seen in the photo above. This allows you to create symbols and images by stenciling onto your journal. The leather will be the most unique aspect of your journal so make sure you pick out a cover that you love! We have NEW plant-based, vegan options available that can be painted (color options subject to availability).

Step 2: Select your binding

Step 2: Select your binding

After you have selected your leather you will pick out a bundle of 2mm beginner's binding. This is used to ease the process of learning to create the journal, however, one of the best things about long-stitch bookbinding is that once your journal pages are full, you can remove the paper and bind in another set of pages with whatever kind of binding you choose.

Step 3: grab your paper

Step 5: add a closure and decorate!

Step 2: Select your binding

Now you will grab a package of 90 lb. mixed media paper . This paper can be used for pencil, pastel, paint, charcoal, and light watercolor.  For an additional cost, you can also choose tea-stained pages to cover each section of your journal (tea-stained pages sold out for the remainder of October).

Step 4: Create your Journal

Next, take a seat in our workshop, where our knowledgeable staff will guide you through the satisfying process of long-stitch bookbinding, offering tips and tricks along the way. Creating your journal usually takes the first hour of the workshop, but once you are done there is still plenty to do!

Once your journal is complete you will select a color of Latigo lace for a wrap-around closure. Now you are ready to etch and decorate your journal however you choose. We have a selection of stencils in store, or you can freehand your own. (You are also welcome to bring your own stencils if you have a specific design in mind).
