Bookbinding is an exciting and ancient craft! Our long-stitch bookbinding workshops give you 2 hours of studio time and instruction by our knowledgable staff. They run most days at 11:00am. If you don't see a time that works for you, text us and we will try to accommodate!
Our medium journals are about 5.5" x 8.5"- great for journaling on-the-go! They have 5 sections (or signatures) with white, heavy weight art paper for text, drawing, sketching, collaging and more. Each section has tea-stained cover pages (made by The Witchery). Cost is $75.
Large journals are about 9" x 12" and deliciously thick! People have used them for grimoires, book of shadows, plant studies (pressing, drawing and documenting medicinal herbs) and more. They have 6 sections of white, heavy weight art paper, also covered with tea-stained pages. Cost is $150.
You can stop in anytime to choose a bookbinding kit to take and make at your convenience, or book a workshop with instruction ($10/person). Your $10 secures your spot and pays for 2 hours of studio time- with use of our stencils, etching templates, paint pens, tracing film and other mixed-media applications. Please note: large journals are now $150 due to an increase in the price of leather, however if you booked prior to July 8, you've locked into our old prices.)
Workshops run most days at 11:00am, with some Thursdays at 4pm. We try to keep our workshops small, however two or more people are still needed to run the class.
Bookbinding is geared towards teens and adults. It involves sharp tools and a lot of focus. Everyone sitting at the table must bind their own book. If you want to help your younger child bind a book and can still bind your own book, then great! (Please note: our instructor will be busy helping everyone, and will not be able to focus specifically on your child. Please be ready to help your child). Thank you for understanding.
We created holes in your leather for you, as this involves a lot of hammering and we have neighbors above us. You'll do all of the book binding and embellishing!
Your pages are empty so you can use your journal however you wish.
Long stitch bookbinding has a soft leather cover, usually about 1.5-2mm's thick. We prefer the long stitch method because it does not involve glue or other adhesives. Your book will have refillable blank pages which are great for writing, drawing, you name it!
In October, there are no refunds for late cancellations and "no-shows". You may be able to get store credit. Thank you for understanding.
