We are SO excited to offer bookbinding at The Witchery! Read along, or scroll down for pricing and FAQ's.
How does it work? First, we'll introduce you to the various tools used in long-stitch, leather wrap binding.
Next, you'll use our templates to prepare your signatures (pages) for binding.
After your pages are ready, you can start binding the paper to your leather wrap.
When finished, keep it rustic and simple, or explore some decorative techniques.
Finally, walk away with a deliciously thick, leather journal! Ready to start journaling? Fill your book with spells and incantations, herbal remedies, art, dreamwork, poetry- the possibilities are endless!
We currently offer bookbinding on Saturdays at noon starting in April, and Saturdays and Sundays at noon from June - October, with extra classes added on demand. You can also book a private class for 3 or more people at no extra cost. Just text us or give us a call and we'll find a date and time that works for everyone.
Cost includes materials and instruction fee. Total workshop cost is $75 for a medium Journal, $95 for a large journal. If you are on a tight budget, we do offer bookbinding kits to take and make at your convenience, thus avoiding the instruction fee. Call for details. $50 deposit required to secure your spot. This will be deducted from your total at the end of class.
Your journal includes a thick, leather wrap, heavy-weight, blank paper for writing, illustrating or painting, binding cord, your choice of metal pendant, decorative metal book corners, in-store use of celtic and other stencils and leather paint pens. Other supplies available for purchase. Side note: We hand-select our leather individually and purchase high quality journal paper from local art stores, then prepare these items for you to bind. We think you will love bookbinding!
Our workshops use the long-stitch bookbinding method, so the cover is a thick, soft leather wrap. We prefer this method; it does not involve glue or other toxic adhesives. Your book will also have refillable blank pages inside, which are great for writing, painting, drawing, collaging, you name it!
That is the plan! Workshops are 2 hours. Some people work more slowly than others, so it depends on each individual. When you finish binding your journal, we recommend you start with some simple embellishments, then finish the details at home. You don't want to rush on your gorgeous, new journal!
Possibly. We prepare everything the night before, but if we have extra leather you may be able to switch sizes.
If it rains, or is too cold or windy, we will text you that morning. We encourage you to come by at your scheduled time to select your bookbinding materials to take and make at home or in your hotel room. We will have instructions ready for you. If you would rather get a refund, simply let us know.
Bookbinding is for older teens and adults only. It involves sharp tools and a lot of focus. Thank you for understanding.
Our seating is very limited. Everyone sitting at our table must make their own journal book.
You can get a refund with 24 hours notice. If it rains, you will have the option of a refund on that day.
