Stenciling and mixed media

Personalize your journal with symbols and images, metal book corners, pendants, etc

Tea Staining

Tea Stained Pages

Tea stained pages add a unique look to your journal. We provide you with a tea-stained paper cover for each journal section, and will discuss how to do your own tea-staining at home.

Gilding

Gilding or metal leafing

Gilding is the art of applying thin sheets of gold, silver or copper to a surface. It lends a richness to your leather and can be used for lettering, creating borders or filling in stencils. It takes time because it involves an adhesive, but if time permits, you can sample the gilding technique. We have gilding supplies for you to purchase and take with you, too.

Bookbinding FAQs

what's included in the workshop?

Workshop materials include choice of leather, blank pages, choice of stitching, metal pendant or charm, in-store use of celtic and other stencils, in-store us of leather paint pens. Tracing film to create templates to go. Other supplies available for purchase.

Are the pages empty or do they come with spells and stuff?

Your pages are empty so you can use your journal however you wish.

ARE WE DOING everything from scratch?

We've cut and pierced holes in the leather for you. This involves hot tools and we want to keep everyone safe. You'll do all of the binding and embellishing.

Are the journals hard cover or soft cover?

Long stitch bookbinding has a thick, soft leather cover. We prefer the long stitch method because it does not involve glue or other adhesives. Your book will have refillable blank pages which are great for writing, drawing, collaging, you name it!

can my child make a book?

Bookbinding is for older teens and adults only. It involves sharp tools and a lot of focus. Thank you for understanding.

CAN I GET A REFUND?

In October, there are no refunds unless there is bad weather.  Thank you for understanding.
