Broom making is a unique and very satisfying craft. Learn how to make a custom broom from scratch, and leave Salem with a memorable, hands-on experience!
Choose an ash or finished hickory broom handle. Our handles come in small, medium and large.
Every broom starts with natural broomcorn. We have cut broomcorn for smalls and mediums, and long-stalk broomcorn for large brooms.
All brooms include a color splash bundle to make your broom pop! Colors change based on availability, but we usually have a rainbow of colors to choose from.
Brooms also include a pendant or charm. Keep it rustic and simple, or customize your broom even further by purchasing add-ons, such as dried flowers, extra pendants & charms, bones, crystals, lace, leather & more.
Finally, come on over to our broom maker's station for some instruction and guidance by our knowledgeable staff. Hope to see you here!
Our broom making workshops are for 13+ crafters ONLY – no exceptions. Boom making in particular involves upper body strength and developed motor skills. Consider getting a kit-to-go for your youngster, so you can help them make a broom at their own pace!
The $50/person (plus $3.12 sales tax) is your initial payment. It is a required deposit that holds your spot in the workshop, and it will be subtracted from your total once you've completed your craft. You will pay the remaining balance for your broom at the end of your session.
For example, if you make a small broom for $59, we will subtract the $50 deposit at checkout, and you will pay the remaining $9 (but remember some accessories are not included and do cost extra).
Unfortunately, no. You can only stay in the store if you registered for the workshop to make a craft - no exceptions. We only have the space and materials for those who have registered and paid their deposit. We suggest friends, family, etc. check out the many shops and restaurants on Pickering Wharf while you craft!
If your group requires more flexibility for class size or observers/supervisors/troop leaders/parents, consider inquiring about booking a private workshop.
Unfortunately, no. Everyone sitting at the table must make their own broom, and be able to craft independently. Please note- we currently do not have a wedding broom option, due to the size of our workshop. We are only offering wedding brooms as kits-to-go. Check out our Wedding Crafts and Group Bookings page for more information on how to get your wedding broom kit to go!
Each broom comes with the following:
You can purchase add-ons and accessories for an additional cost. Each hour long broom making session is instructed by our knowledgeable staff.
The workshop is 1 hour. It usually takes 5 or 10 minutes to select your materials & accessories (unless of course you are a Libra, then it may take longer). It takes about 30 minutes of instruction and guidance to actually make your broom (unless of course you are a Virgo, then it may take longer). ;) The remaining time in the workshop you can use to finish your decorations!
Please be mindful of The Witchery workshop schedule. To get a head start, feel free to peruse our online store to familiarize yourself with the accessory options before your workshop. We also encourage you to arrive to your workshop early, so that you may take more time looking through accessories. Please wait outside until you are invited into the space; we will do our best to get you in as early as possible after we're done cleaning and setting up!
All workshops are BY APPOINTMENT. During Winter and Spring, we have workshops scheduled Tuesday through Saturday: broom making at 1:00pm and 2:30pm, bookbinding at 4:00pm.
More workshops are added to the schedule for Summer and Fall, extending into the evening during October!
You can purchase a broom kit-to-go through our online store or in person. If you are visiting in person, we highly recommend you TEXT OR CALL IN ADVANCE to confirm the best time to stop in. The shop may be closed during the scheduled workshop times, and you may be asked to return after the workshop.
When assembled, the average broom sizes are:
If you are traveling home by plane, it's best to check with your airline to see if they will let you on with your broom. If not, there is a UPS store in town that has boxes specifically sized for our brooms and they have plenty of experience shipping them. The Witchery does not ship brooms once they are made. Otherwise, kits-to-go are the most travel friendly, since they aren't assembled yet!
If you are not present when the instruction portion has started, you cannot join the workshop and we cannot start over for you. Also, if we don't hear from you, we will assume you aren't coming and we may give your spot to a walk-in.
If you miss your workshop, we can help you reschedule your appointment or schedule a time to get a kit-to-go. Missed appointments are not eligible for a refund.
You can reschedule your appointments through your appointment confirmation email. You MUST reschedule EACH AND EVERY appointment individually. If you booked 4 people, you must reschedule 4 times! We may not be able to accommodate your group if your appointments are erroneously scheduled.
You must cancel your reservation via phone call or email within 24 hours of the workshop to get a refund. There are no refunds for late cancellations, tardiness, and "no-shows". Thank you for understanding.
